Substance Use Treatment Programs
Programs of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center
The disease of substance use is complex and chronic, but also treatable. With a dedicated staff, skilled in the use of evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches, Total Recovery at Penn Medicine offers struggling individuals more options than any other substance use treatment center in the Philadelphia region.
OUR MISSION AND VISION
The mission of Total Recovery is to provide the best possible care for adults and their families facing substance use diagnoses (SUD). We believe in holistic and individualized approaches to treat and heal the whole person, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. We strive to be at the forefront of new, unique, evidence-based approaches to substance use treatment and to assist and heal as many individuals as possible. We know that a singular approach does not work for everyone.
We focus on meeting the participants where they are, whether it’s our Certified Recovery Specialists (CRS) reaching out within the community during a warm hand-off to treatment in the Emergency Room or a participant's call for help to our recovery assistance line. The recovery assistance line (267) 809-5080 is available 24/7 for assistance.
OUR TREATMENT APPROACH
Our programs are designed around the wellness model of care principles, including evidence-based care. We offer a balanced integration of pharmacotherapy and psychosocial treatments, including individual and group counseling, peer support, and lifestyle modification strategies. This holistic and personalized approach is aimed at addressing the multifaceted nature of substance use disorders and supporting overall wellness and long-term recovery. We aim to ensure every individual's recovery is supported medically and emotionally.
Every participant works with their team, including a psychiatrist, counselor, case manager, or peer, to develop the individualized treatment plan.
Participants engage in group and individual therapy and psychiatric and case management services to address individual needs. Our individualized treatment plans include:
- comprehensive inpatient and outpatient treatment
- individual assessment
- individual and group counseling
- educational services for individuals and families
- case management
- medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
- drug-free treatment options
- 12-Step recovery education and information
- SMART Recovery Education
- relapse prevention planning
- post-treatment connection to community resources for individuals and families
All of our clinicians at Total Recovery are masters-level clinicians trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through the Penn Beck Collaborative (BCI) Community Initiative.
With an understanding that the disease of addiction impacts the entire family system, all of our clinicians are also trained in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) to provide individuals and their families with the support they need to heal in long-term recovery. They are also trained in a variety of current evidence-based practices.
Patients can elect to receive treatment through one of our excellent clinical programs or, if eligible, may receive treatment as a participant in a research trial at no cost.
