Office of Student Affairs
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) includes the Office of Student Success and Professional Development.
OSA aims to support students at PSOM from orientation to graduation. The primary mission of OSA is to encourage our students to achieve their fullest potential through academic, personal, and professional growth by fostering:
- Personal health and well-being in a safe learning environment
- Career development and residency planning through mentorship, coaching, advising, and academic support
- The needs of a diverse and inclusive student body
- Local and global engagement for the social good
- Leadership and participation in a broad range of student organizations and para-curricular activities
- Access to the University of Pennsylvania’s student resources such as Student Health and Counseling, Weingarten Learning Resources Center, Student Intervention Services, and Wellness at Penn.
OSA is designed to help you navigate your PSOM journey. OSA support students in need of assistance through in person and virtual meetings, phone calls, emails, and drop-in visits. OSA helps students with personal emergency situations, career advising, and access to academic support services. OSA serves as the liaison to Counseling and Psychological Services, Weingarten Learning Resource Center, and other campus-wide resources. OSA also confers regularly with the Advisory Deans who interact with every student one-on-one. Sixteen Advisory Deans assist with transitions, wellness, mentoring, coaching, career advising, institutional navigation, personal issues, emergencies, and general advice. Advisory Deans can provide letters of recommendation for scholarships, fellowship programs, research, and summer opportunities. OSA also spearheads major curricular milestone events such as orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day and Graduation.
OSA organizes the four Houses: Dickens, Mossell, Rhoads, and Wood. Students are assigned to a House upon matriculation. Each House includes four Advisory Deans. The goal of the House system is to create smaller communities, giving student the opportunity to interact with their peers in all classes. Peer mentoring, service, social events, and advising activities all foster interaction between classes and develop smaller communities within PSOM.
