Cardio-Oncology Fellowship Program

The Thalheimer Center for Cardio-Oncology offers a 1-year clinical fellowship for board-eligible cardiologists with the fundamental objective of providing the highest level of clinical training for the next generation of academic clinicians in cardio-oncology. Evidence-based and empathic care to a diverse body of patients living with and beyond cancer, multi-disciplinary and invested collaboration, and dedication to mentorship are key components of our program.

Our fellows benefit from depth and breadth of opportunities in training, including, but not limited to: daily ambulatory cardio-oncology clinics, subspecialty oncology clinics, inpatient consult services, and multi-modality imaging. Moreover, we lead a highly robust clinical, patient-oriented NIH- and AHA-funded research program focused on preventing, detecting, and treating cardiovascular disease in our cancer patients and survivors. The cardio-oncology fellow is expected to actively participate in weekly, multidisciplinary clinical research team meetings and lead a mentored research project. Across the University, there is exposure to a multitude of clinical and research seminars that include oncology and cardiology grand rounds, tumor boards, case conferences, health system cardio-oncology disease team meetings, international cardio-oncology webinars, and multidisciplinary cardio-oncology research meetings. The close collaboration amongst the Thalheimer Center members allows fellows to gain comprehensive subspecialty knowledge.

Our diverse faculty in cardiology and subspecialty disciplines are highly committed to mentorship. The fellow will have opportunities to engage in the activities of leading journals in the field of cardio-oncology, cardiology, and cardio-oncology societies, and national clinical trials research networks and organizations under the mentorship of internationally recognized faculty.

In summary, our cardio-oncology fellowship offers the full spectrum of outstanding inpatient and ambulatory clinical care; highly mentored research; evidence-based learning; and strong connections to societal organization to enable physicians to become experts and leaders in our field.
