CITI training modules for Human Subjects Protection

Training Resource: CITI Protection of Human Subjects Research Training - ORA

Frequency: Prior to starting clinical research. Initial training must be established, as of April 2019, renewal of CITI training for Human Research is no longer required at Penn.

Oversight: CITI training is overseen at Penn by the Institutional Review Board. Visit the Penn IRBs page HERE

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training

Training Resource: Select any one of the following

  1. Completion of on-line, interactive ACRP Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Simulation module
  2. Completion of: CITI's GCP eLearning Module [CITI Drugs and Device and Social & Behavioral]
  3. Providing documentation of approved, sponsor-required GCP training

Frequency: Prior to starting clinical research and every three years

Oversight: GCP training is overseen at Penn by the Office of Clinical Research using Training SOP 401

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

Training Resource: Steps to navigate CITI's Responsible Conduct of Research training on the Office of the Vice Provost for Research site

Frequency: At least once during each career stage, at a frequency of no less than once every four years. For Program based guidance, visit the OVPR website.

Oversight: RCR training is mandated for undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and faculty funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH RCR Notice) training grants and career awards. Depending on your school affiliation, career stage and type of funding, you may be required to complete an on-line RCR course offered by Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), as well as participate in other program-specific types of training. You should always consult your mentor for specific training requirements.

Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS)

Training Resource: You will be re-directed to the EHRS website at Penn, HERE. Please follow instructions to select appropriate training.

Oversight: Training is required by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), for employees who work in laboratories, work with hazardous substances, and with physical hazards including lasers, powered industrial trucks, and hoists, and/or handle,  dispose of chemical or infectious waste.
