DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

WELCOME TO THE DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY PROGRAM

The Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Program at Penn is dedicated to excellence in the treatment of adults struggling with behavioral and emotional challenges. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a rigorously tested and theory-driven treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. Originally designed as an intervention for individuals experiencing acute suicidality and non-suicidal self-injury, DBT is a program of comprehensive cognitive behavioral therapy blended with dialectical philosophy and the principles and practices of mindfulness.  Participation in DBT skills group promotes the acquisition of skills related to mindful attention and awareness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Program faculty and staff are committed to providing education to other healthcare professionals on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Our treatment team consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and trainees.
