BIO STATEMENT

My interests in global health are in areas of health and human rights, peace and social and sustainable development with a particular focus on peacebuilding, HIV/AIDS, Black/African well-being, housing and disaster response. Specifically, I am interested in migration/mobilities and the role of policy in facilitating and enhancing human flourishing for those in the margins of society. Related to this I have been exploring the role of global health education in social transformation.

Recent Global Health Projects

Here is brief summary of my recent work. I published “Promoting Cultures of Peace: Reflections on Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhism’s Contributions to Peacebuilding” in the Journal of Transdisciplinary Peace Praxis; and “Reggae and Human Rights Discourses in Africa” in Peace Review. My other work focused on COVID-19 pandemic and include “COVID-19 Pandemic Response: Using Reflection to Sustain Critical Engagement During a Global Public Health Crisis” published in Practicing Anthropology.

I also contributed a chapter about refugee health in COVID-19 to the Society for the Study of Social Problems’ book, Social Problems in the Age of COVID-19, Volume 2 and was a co-author of "Church as NGO? Leveraging Religious Networks to Promote Health Rights for Urban-Displaced Refugees—Lessons from Tanzania" published in Journal of Human Rights Practice in 2022.
