BIO STATEMENT
I am a diagnostic radiology resident and part of the Penn Radiology Health Equity Track. As a medical student at the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia, I learned to identify and overcome the limitations of adopting new healthcare technologies in developing countries. My current research is focused on creating and implementing accessible imaging tools to improve the diagnosis and management of infections, cancer, and inflammatory diseases worldwide.
Recent Global Health Projects
South Africa: We are evaluating lung damage associated with tuberculosis (TB) using a novel PET imaging probe that targets collagen remodeling. These efforts will allow us to better understand lung fibrosis associated with active TB and post-TB lung disease.
India: The epidemiology of TB in young children, a vulnerable population where diagnosis and treatment are most challenging, is not well understood, especially in countries with limited public health resources. Our study enrolled 223 children with suspected TB in Pune, India, to evaluate the prevalence of both TB and drug resistant-TB.
