BIO STATEMENT

I am a scientist with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Muhimbili University (MUHAS), Tanzania, and a Masters of Philosophy (MPhi)l in Global Health from the University of Bergen, Norway. I have also completed a summer visiting fellowship on Implementation Science and Leadership training from the Centre for Global Health at the University of Pennsylvania, United States.

As a researcher and academic in Global Health, my focus is particularly on Non-Communicable Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and health economics. Affiliated with MUHAS and Tanzania Health Promotion Support (THPS), I am actively engaged in different research projects, with over 30 publications and four grants. My work integrates clinical practice, epidemiology, and biostatistics, aiming to advance global health knowledge and improve health outcomes through innovative research and collaborative initiatives.

Recent Global Health Projects

1. Tanzania Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS 2024).
Roles: Co-investigator and Survey Coordinator. Coordinating government agencies - Ministries of Community Development Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, Ministries of Health Tanzania and Zanzibar; National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS); Implementing partners-Tanzania Health Promotion Support (THPS) and UNICEF; and technical support teams Centres for Disease Control (CDC) Tanzania and Atlanta in implementing the survey. The survey is also been conducted in other countries such as Eswatini, Kenya, Jamaica etc so as to compare the results

2. COVID-19 infection and vaccine uptake among Health Care Workers in Tanzania.
Description: A collaborative research project between MUHAS, PORALG, the Ministry of Health, National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and other academic institutions to design and conduct a national wide survey on COVID-19 infection and vaccine uptake among health care workers in Tanzania following the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Key outputs: 02 papers published, 01 article under-review, 01 ongoing data analysis, 01 dissemination meeting and 02 policy briefs.

3. Awareness in a Caring Community, Response preparedness and interventions supporting people with substance use disorder (SUD) and other vulnerable groups in Tanga, Tanzania.
Description: A collaborative project between the Association Casa Famiglia Rosetta (ACFR), the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) and The Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDEC) under the Non-Communicable Diseases, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Section funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Roles: Co-developed a Recovery and Service Access Mobile and Web Application for people with Drug Use Disorders (DUD); Facilitated training of healthcare workers, teachers, social workers on Basic Universal Training Curriculum (UTC) for Substance Use; Coordinated and participated in community, schools, religious and media Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns on prevention of substance use in Tanga, reached more than 10,000 people; Conducted pre and post campaign scientific researches in Tanga Region, Tanzania.
Key outputs: a functioning mobile and web-based application, 02 published papers, 01 article under review; 02 manuscripts underway & a project dissemination meeting.
