Penn Medicine Jamaican Relief Response
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the impact on Jamaica’s health system has been devastating. Penn Medicine, through the Center for Global Health (CGH), is mobilizing a three-part humanitarian response in partnership with the Jamaican Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) in Kingston.
Our Response
- Relief Fund Donations – Support emergency recovery efforts directly to the Jamaican Government SUPPORT JAMAICA
- Medical Supply Provision – Coordinated through UPHS hospitals.
- On-Site Volunteer Medical Service – For Penn Medicine clinicians ready to serve on the ground.
Volunteer Deployment Overview
- Deployment Window: November 15, 2025 – February 15, 2026
- Minimum Commitment: 14 consecutive days
- Eligibility: Full-time, credentialed Penn Medicine clinicians with valid U.S. passports and current vaccinations including a 2025-2026 COVID booster.
- High-Need Specialties: Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, OB/GYN, Behavioral & Mental Health, General Surgery, and Critical Care
- Covered Costs: Airfare (booked by CGH), ground transportation, and housing (provided through MoH and HIC). Volunteers are responsible for meals and incidental expenses.
- Personal Time: Participation is voluntary and must be approved in advance by your department or division.
- Safety: All participants are covered by Penn SOS for emergency evacuation and repatriation.
