Bio statement

Dr. Yaone Bogatsu began her journey as a medical doctor with the strong conviction that this was the path laid out for her. It is this same conviction that continues to lead and guide her work to date, with over 10 years of experience as a doctor, nine of which were in public service. Her greatest reward lies in seeing people receiving the medical attention that they need so that through the care they receive, they may feel valued, and also be equipped to steward their health with a greater sense of awareness and education. Over the years, Dr. Yaone has been actively involved in activities both within the walls of medical facilities and outside, all in an endeavor to play her part in building a stronger health sector in the nation of Botswana and, ultimately, the world at large. Since officially beginning her journey as a medical doctor in 2013 after obtaining her professional degree in Medicine (MD) from the University of Tromsoe, Norway, Dr. Bogatsu has gone on to obtain a Master's Degree in Medicine in 2021 from the University of Botswana. Since 2021, Dr. Bogatsu has completed several Global Health courses at the University of Washington, USA. In December 2022, Dr. Yaone transitioned from Ngami DHMT in Maun to work as a Family Physician at Toro Clinic in Palapye, Botswana. In April 2023 she accepted a Family Physician and Lecturer position at the University of Botswana in the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health where she served in Mahalapye until July 2024, and transitioned back to Maun, still in the same role, in August 2024. In June 2024, she attended the UPenn Implementation Science Institute Course and the Center for Global Health Summer Visiting Fellowship for Emerging Health Leaders in June 2024.

Dr. Yaone is now a Center for Global Health International Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Since 2020, she has been part of the team running the Community Oriented Primary Care Project in Ngami, a collaborative effort between the University of Botswana and the University of Pennsylvania. The project is aimed at bringing healthcare to the community and improving its socio-economic status. The project is currently running in Matsaudi and Phuduhudu. Dr. Yaone is also engaged with the community of Family Physicians and is currently Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Botswana Association of Family Physicians. She has also been part of the Organising Committee of the Botswana Family Medicine and Primary Health Care Conference since 2024, for this year’s conference she is playing the role of co-chairing the committee.
