About Us
PenNSAM brings together the resources of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, The Penn School of Nursing, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to create a uniquely resourced center for the advanced study of human nutrition. Our expertise encompasses a broad range of disciplines from surgery, neuroscience and medicine, to immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and others. Our capabilities and resources equip us to employ a systems biology approach using genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and deep immune profiling, to further understanding of the impact of nutrition on human health and disease. Such an approach requires an integrated multidisciplinary approach with clinicians working together with basic/clinical researchers as well as analytical and data scientists as conceptualized in the Figure below. Such a team approach to nutrition research is exemplified by the broad range of Foundational Projects supported by PenNSAM.
