(Virtual) PISCE + CFAR IS Core Presents: Medical-Legal Partnerships: A Promising Approach for Engaging Vulnerable Populations in the HIV Prevention and Care Continua

Omar Martinez, JD, MPH, MS, an Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, is a public health and legal scholar specializing in bio-behavioral research and structural interventions for HIV prevention, substance use, and mental health among underserved populations. As director of the Implementation Science Research Lab, he leads high-impact health disparities research, develops interventions, and mentors future researchers while serving as a consultant and board member for organizations advancing public health and social justice.
During this talk, attendees will 1) Understand the Role of Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLPs) in HIV Care, 2) Identify Key Legal Barriers Affecting HIV Prevention and Treatment, and 3) Integrate MLPs into Clinical Practice.
Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 11:00am - 12:00pm EST

(Virtual) May 2025 Work-In-Progress Session: From Coverage to Clicks: Bridging Policy and Practice to Deliver First‑Line Menopause Therapy for All Women

Arina Chesnokova, MD MPH MSHP MSCP is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
Dr. Chesnokova's session will discuss a K23 that pairs a national, policy‑focused analysis of Medicaid reimbursement effects (Aim 1) with an implementation‑science Aim 2 that (i) studies clinician‑level barriers/facilitators through CFIR‑guided interviews and surveys, (ii) co-designs a clinical‑decision‑support system (CDSS) using human centered design, and (iii) pilots the package in a hybrid type 1 trial measuring uptake, fidelity and effectiveness (fill rates and 3mo refill rates). Feedback needed (Aim 2 & research strategy): Are the barrier‑assessment plan, framework selection, CDSS + strategy bundle, and chosen implementation outcomes appropriate? Do the mixed‑methods integration and sample/power for the pilot look feasible, and are there blind spots we should address before finalizing the K?

(Virtual) Spring 2025 Methods Journal Club: Can qualitative analysis ever really be rapid?

LauraEllen Ashcraft, PhD, MSW, an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, is hosting our 2nd Methods Journal Club.
Qualitative and mixed methods analytic approaches are commonly used in implementation science. In recent years, rapid qualitative analysis has been more common as a way to synthesize contextual inquiry with the goal to inform implementation—but is this approach really rapid? Join us in discussing and debating this topic at our Methods Journal Club.

(Virtual) Spring 2025 Lecture: How to Choose? Implementation Science Frameworks and Health Equity: An Overview for Early-Stage Investigators

Katelin Hoskins, PhD, MBE, CRNP is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and Stephen Bonett, PhD, RN is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
This talk will focus on the use of theories, models, and frameworks within implementation science with an emphasis on health equity. We will provide guidance on how to select a framework based on investigators’ research questions and goals. We will provide a worked use case and pose key questions with which the field is currently grappling. The talk is geared toward early-stage investigators who are interested in learning more about implementation science.
Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm EST

(Virtual) 9th Annual Penn Implementation Science Institute

The Penn Implementation Science Institute (ISI) aims to provide participants with the tools to design and execute rigorous implementation science research. ISI will give participants an introduction to the foundations of implementation science (i.e., terminology, conceptual models and frameworks, study design), in-depth understanding on how principles of implementation science can be applied to practical implementation efforts, an overview of advanced topics including implementation strategies and sustainability, and a reading list of seminal papers in implementation science. Additionally, participants will receive hands-on experience sessions led by ISI speakers + staff in grant writing, skill development, and writing specific aims for implementation science grants.
June 24 - 27, 2025 from 12:00pm - 5:00pm EST

Register here by May 16, 2025.

REMINDER

Our Implementation Science Institute occurs virtually every June. Consider signing up for this 4-day synchronous training program to enhance your skills! We also offer a virtual Implementation Science Certificate.
