Dr. Chakravorty is a Clinical Associate in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, and a Staff Physician at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He completed his medical school training at the University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi, India. Subsequently, he completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Pittsburgh, sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and an integrated clinical-research post-doctoral fellowship with the MIRECC of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
His research is focused on developing a better understanding of the insomnia associated with pathological alcohol use. Specifically, his research interests include the following: 1) biopsychosocial determinants of insomnia associated with alcohol dependence, 2) clinical and underlying molecular factors associated with an improvement in the insomnia during recovery from pathological alcohol use, 3) relationship of this insomnia with comorbid psychiatric, medical, and other drug use disorders.
