CAMRIS Equipment 

CAMRIS oversees eight state-of-the-art whole-body research MRI Siemens scanners operating at 1.5, 3, and 7 Tesla. Our scanners are located in both the University and Hospital environments.  

CAMRIS works diligently to ensure equipment is up-to-date and functional. We collaborate with the manufacturers’ service teams to ensure timely response to technical issues that arise. Please promptly report issues to a CAMRIS staff member or by posting on the CAMRIS #technical_issues Slack channel.   

Scanner Information 

Refer to the below table for scanner locations and basic specifications. Please refer to this document for more detailed information about CAMRIS scanners including serial number and other information often requested on sponsor feasibility questionnaires.

Mock Scanner

There is a mock scanner freely available to the Penn research community (Psychology Software Tools, Inc. model # PST-100355). The mock scanner creates a realistic fMRI environment to desensitize participants prior to scanning. It is located in Room 304 in the Levin Building (by the biopond near Goddard). Please note the scanner is much smaller than a full-size scanner. It offers MoTrak (motion tracking) and SimFx (sound simulation and presentation) software. To access the scanner, submit a booking request ticket at the CAMRIS Help Center. CAMRIS staff will assist with the booking and provide the team with the code to the key lock box, which is required for entry to the suite. Please note, a Penncard will be required for entry. Kindly remember to clean the table with the wipes provided and return the key to the lock box before leaving.

Testing Rooms

There are testing rooms available for study teams requiring space to complete questionnaires or other activities with participants prior to the MRI exam. The rooms in Founders basement and Stellar Chance laboratories basement are available to book on the CAMRIS calendar under 'HUP6 Exam Room' and 'Stellar Chance Exam Room', respectively. If you require space near the PAV10 MRI suite, you can book a shared conference room in the Pavilion through Workplace @ Penn Medicine reservations: https://uphs.nfsonline.net/Quickbook/Booking/Create. Tip: click on the floorplan button to see where the room is located prior to booking! There are two nearby spaces available on the 10th floor.
