Dr. Mitchell Lewis is the John Morgan Professor of Medical Education.  He has been actively involved in both graduate and medical school education and was the Principle Investigator of the Structural Biology Training Grant for 15 years. Acknowledging that the future of translational research depends upon the basic science community being well versed in human disease, Dr. Lewis established Med into Grad Scholars program (funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute) to integrate focused medical education into the doctoral curriculum and experience.  Dr. Lewis’ research has focused on the molecular basis of transcriptional regulation and has made significant contributions to the area of gene regulation. He has elucidated the structures of repressors from bacteriophage lambda and the repressor lac operon of E.  coli,  systems  that serve as the paradigm for understanding gene regulation.  More recently his research has focused on creating inducible transgene regulatory systems for biomedical applications.

Abhilasha Gupta
Research Specialist

Dr. Abhilasha Gupta is a Research Specialist at Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics and CAROT Center. Abhilasha completed her Ph.D. at The University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research, Australia. Her PhD focused on the super metabolic regulator AMPK and it’s role in gene expression. She further pursued her postdoctoral training at Thomas Jefferson University in Cutaneous Biology and Gene Therapy. Abhilasha joined us in 2016 and her focus is to design and create genetic switches to effectively regulate gene expression for various disease models. Abhilasha values family time, enjoys classical dance, reading and traveling.
