Kim has a background and education in animal science, and has worked with rodent disease models for over 10 years, including induction and monitoring of rodent models of multiple sclerosis/optic neuritis and optic nerve trauma for the past 8 years. She has specific expertise in monitoring of visual function, histology techniques, and animal husbandry.

Reas has worked with rodent models of central nervous system disease for over 15 years, including induction and monitoring of rodent models of multiple sclerosis/optic neuritis and optic nerve trauma for the past 8 years, and models of epilepsy conducted in his PhD thesis laboratory from 2003-2008, as well as during a post-doctoral fellowship from 2008-2010. He has extensive experience with handling of rodents during and after survival surgery, assessment of retinal ganglion loss during optic neuropathies, and molecular biology techniques to examine signaling pathways activated during disease and modulated by potential neuroprotective therapies.
