Appointment of Jody J. Foster, MD, MBA, as Assistant Dean for Professionalism

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jody J. Foster, MD, MBA, as the first Assistant Dean for Professionalism in Penn Medicine. Dr. Foster’s appointment to this newly created position advances the Campaign for Professionalism, which is being led by Dr. Lisa Bellini, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Foster is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Pennsylvania Hospital. She serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Psychiatry and is the Executive Clinical Director of the Professionalism Program at Penn Medicine. She also leads the Professionalism Committees of the health system’s member hospitals and serves as the Executive Medical Director of Penn Behavioral Health Corporate Services. 

In her new role, Dr. Foster will be responsible for the design and implementation of initiatives to enhance professionalism in the learning and working environments. Among her responsibilities, she will co-chair with Dr. Bellini the Penn Medicine Steering Committee for Professionalism, which has been tasked with maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and fostering an environment of trust and teamwork.

Dr. Foster received her medical degree in a combined accelerated BA/MD program from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed both a residency and chief residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in clinical psychopharmacology and mood disorders at The Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. She received her MBA with a concentration in Finance from Wharton.

Dr. Foster was elected to Penn Medicine’s inaugural class of the Academy of Master Clinicians and has received numerous awards for undergraduate and residency teaching. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Foster on her new appointment as Assistant Dean for Professionalism.
