With pride for his long tenure as a trusted and accomplished leader, we write to share the news that Dr. Peter D. Quinn will be stepping down from his current role as Chief Physician Executive for the Penn Medicine Medical Group (PMMG) on June 30, 2021 and will transition back to his role as the Schoenleber Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Peter is a true “citizen of Penn.” Starting in 1970, he completed his dental, medical and OMFS training followed by 37 years on the faculty as a clinician and researcher. His transformative leadership has included two decades as Chair of OMFS, 11 years as lead physician at CPUP and 3 years as the inaugural Chief Physician Executive at PMMG. During his CPUP tenure, we saw unprecedented growth, and impressive gains in financial and operating performance which have allowed for continued investment in key parts of our growth strategy such as the opening of multiple world-class ambulatory facilities. He worked with our academic chairs, hospital CEOs and service-line leaders to create PMMG.

As Peter returns to his senior clinical faculty role, he will serve as a special advisor to us in select areas and maintain his leadership roles in the Center for Human Appearance, the Academy of Master Clinicians and as chair of the Conflict-of-Interest Committee. We are grateful for his many contributions, which have helped lay the foundation for our health system’s strength today.

PMMG was created in 2017 as a unified organization for all Penn Medicine physicians in primary care, different specialties, and with various hospital affiliations. With Dr. Quinn’s retirement, we begin a new chapter in Penn Medicine’s systemwide integration, and it is with great pleasure that we announce that Dr. Deborah Driscoll will take on an additional position as Chief Physician Executive for PMMG in addition to her roles as senior vice president for the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania and Vice Dean for Professional Services in the Perelman School of Medicine. She will assume her new post effective July 1, 2021.

Dr. Driscoll’s expanded portfolio will be a cornerstone of our strategy to build upon and improve our clinical integration and provide best-in-class patient access to care in each part of our system. She will partner with practice leaders to guide new initiatives to enhance the quality and delivery of ambulatory care. We’ll be sharing more about these efforts in the coming months.

Since moving into these enterprise-wide leadership roles in 2019 following her 14 years as chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Driscoll has led with vision and creativity. She has led with distinction during the pandemic, helping to stand up testing and vaccine sites, reorganized CPUP finances to include closer oversight of research and investments, and helped recruit highly talented clinical chairs and department chief operating officers. Her steady leadership hand and empathy for both our clinicians and patients during the stresses of the pandemic have made her one of our most inspirational and well-respected leaders.

Please join us in congratulating both Dr. Quinn and Dr. Driscoll and wishing them well in their endeavors.
