Sharing Our Support

October 10, 2023

Dear Penn Medicine Community,

Like you, we continue to follow the reports out of Israel and Gaza with heartbreak and anguish. In a world that is already experiencing far too much tragic conflict and violence, the shocking attack by Hamas on Israel has exacted an enormous human toll and will no doubt lead to retaliation and further loss of life. We grieve for those who have lost their lives and the ongoing threats to others.

As healthcare providers and scientists, and indeed as people, it is painful to witness this loss of life and massive injuries. War is trauma. And that trauma extends far beyond the borders of a geographic area. We know that many members of our community are deeply and personally impacted by this emerging conflict – through worries for friends and family who live in the region, from strong cultural and religious connections, or other ties – and the sense of fear is unfathomable. During this difficult time, we wish to convey our support, care, and concern for all of you.

A list of resources and support services is below and, as always, we welcome your outreach and feedback.

In the face of terror and hate, let us stand together as a community bound by our shared dedication to health and well-being for all, uplifting ourselves to support one another with open-mindedness and compassion.

Sincerely,
