University Leadership Transitions

December 11, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

The announcements this weekend regarding University leadership transitions shared important information on our path forward together. We are confident that the steady hand of Interim Board of Trustees Chair Julie Platt, together with an interim president to be named in the coming days, will effectively steward Penn in the months ahead – including support for Penn Medicine across all our mission areas as we nurture new research discoveries, provide extraordinary patient care, pursue excellence in the classroom, and further a deep commitment to our community.

We want to convey the depths of our support for all of you in this moment, and encourage you to recognize the fabric of community that surrounds us here. Our work, values, goals, and missions remain steadfast. Penn Medicine is united in our focus on supporting each other, our patients, and our community. We truly believe this is our most powerful antidote to any challenges we face.

The University of Pennsylvania is centuries old and has witnessed innumerable challenges, only to emerge ever stronger, and positioned to spread the light of knowledge and truth throughout the world. Now is a time to focus on our missions – the world needs us. Our outstanding faculty, staff, and students will continue to lead with humanity in all that we do, extending hope and healing to all. As the holiday season continues, we extend our respect and best wishes to each of you.

Sincerely,
