Leadership Transition
August 22, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
We write to share the news that Dr. Marylyn D. Ritchie will be leaving Penn Medicine in November 2025 to join the leadership team at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston.
We are extraordinarily grateful for Dr. Ritchie’s outstanding contributions to Penn Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania. She has served many important roles, including as Director of the Institute for Biomedical Informatics; Vice Dean of Artificial Intelligence and Computing; Co-Director of the Penn Medicine Biobank; a faculty member in the Departments of Genetics and Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics (DBEI); and the Director of the Division of Informatics in DBEI. Dr. Ritchie has been a valued colleague, mentor, and collaborator who has had a significant impact across our campus.
We look forward to following Dr. Ritchie’s continued scientific impact with pride. We wish her and her family all the best in this transition.
Soon, we will initiate a process for new leadership in these key areas, with more details to follow. In the meantime, please join us in thanking Dr. Ritchie for the many ways in which she has enriched the Penn Medicine community.
Sincerely,
Jon Epstein, MD, Dean, Perelman School of Medicine
