Patrick J. Brennan, MD is the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is also a Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brennan leads implementation of Penn’s Blueprint for Quality, a strategic effort to improve clinical accountability and the outcomes of care. He chairs the Penn Medicine Internal COVID Advisory Committee and serves as a medical advisor to the Recovery Planning Group of the University of Pennsylvania.

Jeremy Cannon, MD, SM is a Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Cannon specializes in the treatment of traumatic injury, emergency general surgery conditions, and surgical critical care. His research interests include improving outcomes from hemorrhagic shock, developing technology for the treatment of acutely injured patients, and military-civilian health care and training partnerships, with a specific interest in using quality metrics to identify opportunities for improvement in combat casualty systems of care.

Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. D’Alleyrand is a retired Army surgeon, specializing in high-energy blast injuries and limb salvage surgery. He has extensive experience with limb restoration, including management of bone and soft-tissue defects, deformity correction, and amputation surgery in the active patient. In addition to treating the sequelae of high-energy trauma, he treats a full complement of acute orthopaedic trauma injuries, including pelvic and acetabular cases and complex periarticular fractures.

Dr. Samir Mehta is a fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma and fracture surgeon, treating broken bones and injuries of the arms, legs and pelvis. His goal is to improve function by restoring form, including fixing fractures that have just happened, along with fractures that may not be healing or may have healed incorrectly.
When most people think of "trauma", their thoughts often go to events like car crashes or falls from heights or natural disasters. But, trauma is any sort of injury, like tripping while running or missing the last step on the stairs or breaking something during an athletic event. Dr. Mehta treats "hot trauma" (injuries that have just occurred), as well as "cold trauma" (the effects of injuries that occurred in the past).

Benjamin “Kyle” Potter, MD, FACS, an internationally renowned physician-leader in combat casualty care, has been named chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Penn Medicine, effective June 24, 2024. He will join the Perelman School of Medicine from his role as the Norman M. Rich Professor and Chair of the Uniformed Services University (USU) – Walter Reed Department of Surgery. He retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army in 2023 following more than 22 years of active duty service during which he made impressive contributions to both military and civilian medicine.
