Overview & Requirements

You may enter the Primary Care Pathway Program in your first (MS1), second (MS2) or third (MS3) year as a student at the Perelman School of Medicine. Regardless of the year you enter, you will be required to complete the following:

  1. Pre-clerkship longitudinal patient care experience (PLACE)*
  2. Primary Care and Health System Science Workshops
  3. Primary care externship — four-week block experience or longitudinal experience option as the primary recurrent ambulatory clinic to improve continuity care experience (PRACTICE)
  4. Research or scholarship project in primary care
  5. Community engagement experience
  6. Primary care electives: four weeks for students who have completed PLACE; eight weeks for students who have not completed PLACE

*Required for those who join the Pathway Program as MS1 or MS2 students
