Frontiers in Health System Science and Primary Care

Frontiers in Health System Science (HSS) and Primary Care (PC) is a course conducted during several evenings each week of Measey STeP and is required for all Pathway students. It can be counted towards the eight-week extra elective requirement. Course topics are taught through mixed methodologies. 

  • HSS: Topics include foundational elements of health system science, including health care infrastructure and policy, intervisit care, telehealth, population health, clinical informatics, quality improvement, patient safety, and interdisciplinary teamwork. 
  • PC: Topics include primary care skills, including instruction on patient communication, social determinants of health and disparities, outpatient procedures, prevention, and advocacy/community engagement.

Other Coursework

University courses, particularly in many of Penn's master's programs, may be of interest to Pathway Program students. You may use your tuition dollars to take three courses while you are in medical school. We encourage you to explore the following links:
