Research & Scholarship

Pathway students are required to participate in research focused on primary care. Students may choose topics such as:

  • Population health management
  • Health systems science
  • Health equity and advocacy
  • Quality improvement
  • Primary care clinical operations

Students may use their scholarly pursuit research to fulfill the Pathway's research requirement, if it is focused on primary care and occurs after Core 2. PSOM students can access a curated list of Primary Care researchers interested in working with students on scholarly projects. Students may reach out to the program coordinator to access the most up to date version of this list. Additional research and scholarly opportunities Resources are listed to the right.

Summer Stipend Opportunity

The Primary Care Pathway Program offers a limited number of summer stipends to support student research or community engagement projects related to primary care. This funding is intended for projects that do not otherwise receive full financial support.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Projects must be directly related to primary care.
  • Research mentors must be faculty in either internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or geriatrics, preferably affiliated with CHOP or Penn.
  • Students with partial funding from other sources may apply for supplemental support through the Pathway

Applications are evaluated based on merit and/or financial need.

Application materials are made available on Canvas for current MS1 students. Students are encouraged to reach out to the program coordinator with any questions.
