RECOVER Consult Service
The inpatient RECOVER consult service helps to evaluate hospitalized patients with disorders of consciousness resulting from acute brain injury. The service is integrated with Penn's Neurology Residency Program, to ensure that neurology trainees receive foundational education in consciousness prognostication and recovery. Purposes of inpatient consultation may include:
- The evaluation of level of consciousness
- Prognostication of neurologic recovery
- Treatments to promote consciousness recovery
- Management of neurologic complications of brain injury
- Coordination between specialties in brain injury care
- Coordination with research to offer cutting-edge techniques
- Support to patient families in evaluating treatment options
- Establishing longitudinal relationships with patients and their families
Patients discharged from the hospital may continue to be supported through the RECOVER Transition Program or RECOVER Clinic.
