In Vivo Services

The SCXC offers a wide variety of in vivo services from training to full-service experiments. The Core maintains a large breeding colony (~200 breeder pairs) of immune-deficient (NSG) animal model in an effort to meet users demand. Experimental animal models are housed in our NSG-dedicated BSL-2 space equipped with individually ventilated cage racks and all the necessary equipment for procedures and survival surgeries.

The Core BSL-2 space is also equipped with dedicated optical/fluorescence imaging systems (IVIS Lumina and Spectrum). Other imaging modalities (ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET) can be accessed through our partnership with the Small Animal Imaging Facility (SAIF) at UPENN.

We offer a wide variety of xenograft models; human CD34 (transplant or BLT) into NSG animal model, orthotopic patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models of hematologic malignancies (AML, ALL), and solid tumors (ovarian, hepatic, brain, lung, etc.).  Our Core has expertise in xenograft models for regenerative medicine studies including human liver reconstitution (FRG model), human islet transplantation, and teratoma testing for human iPS and ES cells.
