Description of Research Expertise
375 A pioneer and internationally prominent scientist in the application of stable isotopes to study metabolism. A long-standing scientific research focus on understanding the cause, mechanism(s) and outcome of metabolic disorders. The outcome of the research activity has profoundly alter the way we study disease processes as well as understanding the mechanism of metabolic malfunction in cases such as cancer, fatty liver disease, Metabolic Syndrome, neurological function, etc. Exemplar projects of the scientific endeavors including: (i) the mechanism(s) of hepatic metabolic dysfunction and exploration of metabolome/fluxome malfunction in Metabolic Syndrome;(ii) pathogenesis of disorders of mitochondrial integrity and function; (iii) brain metabolic functions and neurochemical aberrations; (iv) the molecular and metabolomic characteristics of cancer cells, etc.6e
Description of Other Expertise
216 As a scientific director of the Metabolomics Core Facility at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, I have collaborated and contributed to many projects investigating metabolomic and fluxomic profiling in normal and disease states. The Metabolomics core has been internationally recognized as metabolomics research center. The core provided state-of-the-art scientific and analytical services to CHOP and Penn investigators as well as to investigators from numerous academic centers in the U.S, Canada and Europe.db As a member of the Institute of Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Perelman School of Medicine, I have been involved in various projects dealing with hepatic metabolism and insulin resistance, obesity or diabetes.
