Description of Other Expertise
418 Dr. Perrone is a Professor and Director of Medical Toxicology and Addiction Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. In 2019, she was appointed as the Founding Director of the Penn Center for Addiction Medicine and Policy and has been working closely with health system leadership to coalesce and expand substance use treatment, education and research. Her work started in the emergency department, building 24/7 access to treatment initiation. Her team rapidly implemented a virtual telehealth bridge clinic (CareConnect) during Covid 19 to expand low barrier access to medications and has treated over 2500 patients. She is a Co-Investigator on a NIDA multi-site trial of ED initiated buprenorphine. Dr. Perrone has advocated at the state and national level and contributed to FDA, CDC and SAMHSA working groups to enhance equitable substance use care. She has been recognized with awards for leadership, education and mentorship and is board certified in emergency medicine, medical toxicology and addiction medicine.4b She was inducted into the Penn Academy of Master Clinicians in 2014.
