Description of Research Expertise

4aa Following completion of my extramural fellowship in clinical informatics at the National Library of Medicine I became Director of Clinical Informatics in the Center for Biomedical Informatics at CHOP where I have been assisting clinical researchers to obtain pilot data for grant preparation, develop patient enrollment strategies, implement clinical decision support (CDS) interventions improve healthcare delivery using web-services, and manage research data once the project is underway. I have supported a multitude of research projects on topics ranging from documentation completeness, infant feeding, asthma, childhood development, psychiatric disease, prematurity and trauma. I have extensive experience in database programming and user-interface design within EHR implementation and I have many years experience developing software in both the field of engineering and medicine. I have applied this experience in CHOP by working with physician groups and clinical leadership to establish consensus on key EHR data mining efforts. I am currently working with multiple academic organizations to replicate our successful use of the EHR as a research tool in new settings.

Since that time I have been practicing pediatrician at the South Philadelphia location of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Care Network. I primarily care for underserved children from families who have recently immigrated to the United States.
