Description of Research Expertise

Health disparities are a significant problem in almost every field of medicine, and have become an enigma in Obstetrics and Perinatal medicine in recent decades. As a neonatologist with interests in public health and epidemiologic issues, the disparity in preterm birth rates and perinatal outcomes for African American women and their infants are important to me. Hence my areas of research interest have included:
1) Measures of Socioeconomic Status in Mothers of Low Income Status
2) The Impact of Common Maternal Illnesses on the Disparity in Preterm Birth Rates
3) The Impact of Individual Hospital Effects on the Disparity in Preterm Birth Rates
4) Racial Differences in Immunoprophylaxis rates against RSV of former Preterm Infants
