Description of Research Expertise
I have expertise in human neuroanatomy, cellular and systems neuroscience, and neurodegenerative proteinopathies including Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal lobar degeneration. I investigate patterns of pathology and neurodegeneration in large-scale neuroanatomical studies of postmortem human tissue by using a combination of novel methods including digital histopathology, computer vision, machine learning, and bioinformatic analyses. I have strong experience performing translational research with multi-disciplinary approaches designed to determine the relationships between pathologic inclusions, neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, structural MRI, and clinical impairments characteristic of neurodegenerative disorders including behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia. My long-term career goal and translational research program is to support the discovery of emerging biomarkers to improve diagnostics and inform therapeutic studies dedicated to developing neuroprotective treatments in neurodegenerative disorders.Selected Publications
