Penn CFAR researchers Cedric Bien-Gund of the Perelman School of Medicine and Malitta Engstrom of the School of Social Policy and Practice have received special supplemental awards from the National Institutes of Health to further the End the HIV Epidemic initiative. Dr. Bien-Gund’s research will focus on implementation of community pharmacy-based rapid HIV testing and PrEP in Philadelphia, and Dr. Engstrom’s project will explore the feasibility of extended-release buprenorphine and peer services among adults with HIV and opioid use disorder who are exiting the prison system.
