Philadelphia Department of Health/Penn CFAR Collaborative

Data Science and Research Opportunities with the Penn CFAR/PDPH Collaborative

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) Division of HIV Health (DHH) is responsible for all HIV/AIDS-related planning and policy activities, HIV surveillance and epidemiological activities, and HIV/AIDS education and training for professional, civic, and community groups in Philadelphia and the region. PDPH is a formal partner in the Penn Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), with the goal of catalyzing research collaborations that bring CFAR expertise to address knowledge gaps needed by PDPH to advance HIV/AIDS prevention and care in the Philadelphia regions and enable use of PDPH data for CFAR investigators.

The PDPH has a wealth of surveillance and programmatic data that supports research on HIV, HCV and the opioid epidemic.  To facilitate this, we have a shared biostatistician positioned part-time within PDPH to help with this research. There are opportunities for both faculty and students to analyze data, be involved in research on HIV-related topics at the PDPH, or initiate collaborations on questions of mutual interest.

The program is overseen by Dr. Kathleen Brady, MD, MSCE, who is Director of DHH and CFAR Administrative Core Investigator.  Click here for the PDPH Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) plan:  A Community Plan to End the HIV Epidemic in Philadelphia.
