Billy Tsima, MMed, MSCE

Dr. Tsima MD MSCE, CFAR International Core Investigator and first graduate of Penn’s NIH/Fogarty funded “HIV Clinical Epidemiology Training for Botswana” has been named Interim Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Botswana. Dr. Tsima is a Family Medicine physician and HIV clinical epidemiologist. His research has addressed issues of mental illness, substance use (particularly tobacco), cardiovascular risk, and neurocognitive function in PWH in Botswana. He Co-Directs the Sedibeng Consultation Service with Core Director Dr. Gross as a resource to Batswana interested in HIV investigation with a need for study design advice and collaboration. Most recently, he was invited to present his work on the Thotloetso Smoking Cessation Trial in collaboration with other Penn CFAR investigators at the 14th AORTIC International Conference on Cancer in Africa in Dakar, Senegal.
