Description of Clinical Expertise
I am a hematopathologist and Director of the hematology laboratory at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I came to hematopathology originally because I wanted to care for critically ill patients alongside intelligent, curious clinicians in a collaborative fashion. I also enjoy interacting with our strong flow cytometrists, medical technologists, molecular pathologists, cytogeneticists, histotechs and pathology assistants, who make my work possible.I am interested in quality and process improvement in the lab, and I am particularly fascinated by pediatric myeloid neoplasms.
Description of Other Expertise
On my first day as a lab director, I learned that our entire dayshift staff had been exposed to COVID-19 in the workplace and had to quarantine. Although no one became seriously ill, this experience framed my relationship with laboratory professionals, and highlighted their role as front line workers.I work closely with Surabhi Mulchandani, Vice Chair for Laboratory Administration, and other leadership in the department, to develop sustainable, ongoing strategies to develop and strengthen the pathology workforce.
