Description of Research Expertise
I have been investigating the biochemistry and pharmacology of the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway and its role in inflammation and cardiovascular disease since I was an undergraduate student.I have contributed to understand the human pharmacology of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)s and how they may harm the cardiovascular system.
My current research focuses on defining the role and regulation of eicosanoids and other bioactive lipids in cardiovascular disease, aging, the response to checkpoint blockade in cancer, and viral infections, such as in COVID-19. I am also investigating the mechanisms underlying the ability of NSAID to damage the small intestine.
For my research I integrate studies in model systems using multi-omic (lipidomics, single-cell transcriptomics, metagenomics) and immune profiling approaches.
