Description of Research Expertise
27e Dr Stallings and her collaborators conduct clinical research in the nutrition-related growth, body composition and dietary abnormalities of infants, children and adolescents with chronic diseases. Studies have included children with cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, cerebral palsy, congenital heart disease, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, HIV/AIDS, osteoporosis and obesity. In addition, our research group investigated the growth and developmental patterns of healthy children to establish reference standards for nutrition, growth, body composition, bone health and energy expenditure and requirements.65

d6 Dr Stallings clinical expertise is in nutrition and growth-related complications of chronic disease, nutrition support of hospitalized children, and long term advanced nutrition support of children.62
Description of Other Expertise
1b0 Dr Stallings is actively involved in nutrition and health policy for children and their mothers. Through work at the National Academy of Science and the Institute of Medicine, she makes ongoing contributions to improving the foods in the WIC program and in the school setting (breakfast, lunch, competitive foods) with the program leaders at the United States Department of Agriculture and Health and Human Services.e 29
