Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. William Anninger is a member of the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania and Scheie Eye Institute Department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Anninger completed his undergraduate training at the University of Michigan and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He was an intern in the Department of Medicine at Cambridge City Hospital, Harvard University, and completed his post-doctoral training at the William Havener Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology, Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio. Finally, he completed his fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2006.

Dr. Anninger actively sees patients at the Children's Hospital Main Campus and at the Children's Hospital Specialty Care Centers in King of Prussia and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He cares for a complex full spectrum of pediatric ophthalmology cases and patients. His sub-specialties within the field include the medical and surgical care of anterior segment and pediatric cataracts, and complex retinopathy of prematurity. He is the main regional referral source for pediatric cataract care.

He is deeply involved in the training and teaching of medical students, ophthalmology residents and pediatric ophthalmology fellows rotating or working at CHOP. Given his high volume of complex anterior segment cases, the pediatric ophthalmology fellows find training in his OR extremely valuable.

His current research efforts are service related, and primarily focus on the clinical evaluation of retinopathy of prematurity patients for who are enrolled in retrospective reviews.
