Description of Clinical Expertise
I received fellowship training in healthcare communication 2008-2014 from the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (now Academy on Communication in Healthcare). I am currently serving a 3 year term as the Co-Director of the Academy's faculty-in-training program.I am certified by the Academy on Communication in Healthcare to teach relationship-centered communication skills workshops nationally.
I am trained in delivering and teaching a variety of provider-patient communication skills such as behavior change counseling, breaking bad news, and managing high-stakes challenging encounters including end-of-life communication and pain and opioid management. I teach these skills to residents and faculty at Penn as well as across the country.
I serve as a coach to faculty and trainees at Penn and on nationally on communication skills and professionalism lapses.
