Description of Research Expertise

1. Cartilage repair with bioengineered hydrogels.
2. Tissue engineering for tendon repair.
3. Effects of non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications on rotator cuff repair.
4. Distal radius fractures.
5. Thumb basal joint arthritis.

Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Steinberg treats all forms of upper extremity pathology, both acute and chronic, focusing on hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. He performs hand & wrist arthroscopy. He also performs nerve repair & reconstruction in both upper & lower extremities. He has expertise in microsurgery, and is a member of the Penn Hand Transplant Program.

Description of Other Expertise

Dr. Steinberg has a strong interest in resident & fellow education. He is Director of the Hand/Upper Extremity/Microsurgery Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of numerous committees in national organizations, most of which focus on orthopaedic education. He has served as an Examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery since 2008.
