Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Goldsmith is a staff attending cardiac intensivist in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has particular interest in clinical informatics, mechanical circulatory support, care of the chronic ICU patient.

Description of Other Expertise

Dr. Goldsmith is faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. He has an interest in clinical informatics, and is the Technology and Information Systems Officer for the Cardiac Center. He has experience leading an enterprise-wide implementation of Patient Monitoring Technology, and serves on several hospital-wide clinical informatics leadership groups. He is regularly involved in the bedside teaching of Pediatric Cardiology, Critical Care, Neonatology, and Cardiac Surgery Fellows. He has particular interest in the education and development of Cardiac Critical Care Senior Fellows.

Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Goldsmith's academic interest is in clinical informatics in the critical care environment. Specifically, Dr. Goldsmith is interested in the ways clinicians interact with patient-generated data to make clinical decisions. He has studied the impact of high-frequency vital sign monitoring on bias in conventional EMR reporting, the impact of analytic algorithms in supporting clinician decision making, and trying to understand how to make these clinical decision support tools more useful in the clinical space. His ongoing research looks at ways to improve clinician comprehension and decision-making.
