Description of Research Expertise

45b For over a decade Dr. Noël directs a research program with a broad focus on developing x-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) technology. A central component of his research is the harmonization between hardware and software, reconstruction, and post-processing to achieve integrated clinical solutions. He has built an extensive foundation for facilitating the clinical translation of novel diagnostic imaging technology; one example is the introduction of photon-counting CT. A parallel effort is the development of novel 3D printed CT phantoms, which serve as a central ingredient for clinical and research tasks around evaluation and standardization. Recently he and his team introduced patient-specific lung phantoms, which are available to the larger research community. On the other end of the spectrum, his research program contributes to basic x-ray physics questions focusing on phase-contrast and dark-field imaging. His publication record not only includes more than 190 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, but also a patent portfolio in the areas of x-ray and CT imaging.
