Description of Clinical Expertise

Clinical Practice, Interests, and Accomplishments.

My clinical practice interests include management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prevention and management of pediatric overweight and obesity and its metabolic complications, and management of pituitary conditions including
panhypopituitarism, septo-optic dysplasia, and sellar lesions. I also have interest in quality improvement for the management of patients with type 1 diabetes on insulin pumps and practice improvements to increase access to
diabetes technology in underserved populations.

Description of Other Expertise

Quality Initiatives.

Quality: 08/2023 - Present
Background: Patients on insulin pumps are at high risk for diabetic ketoacidosis in the setting of pump failure. Recognized gap in quality in the setting of pump failures, with patients frequently unable to restart insulin in a timely manner in the setting of pump failure. Quality improvement project: I am serving as the team leader for the quality improvement project to address this gap in quality. The project group
includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and administrative staff. The goal of the project is to decrease the occurrences of unresolved insulin interruption in patients on pump therapy by the time of first healthcare contact. We have gathered input from patients, parents, nurses, diabetes providers, medical administrative assistants, and emergency room physicians to accurately define the problem, performed comprehensive chart review to determine the rate of unresolved insulin interruption in patients on pumps in our practice, analyzed the data to determine root cause, and we are actively improving the process through implementation of a standardized back up plan and supplies given to patients on insulin pumps at visits. PDSA cycles are ongoing as part of the improve phase of the quality improvement project.

Description of Research Expertise

Research Interests and Accomplishments.

My research interests include the study of population based managment and long term outcomes in pediatric patients with sellar lesion using the Rochester Epidemiology Project database, effects of stimulant medication on
pediatric patients with overweight and obesity, impact of ethnicity on accuracy of bone age estimates, and improving mentorship and discussion of barriers for female physicians.
