Description of Research Expertise

44b I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania, with subspecialty board certification in Dermatopathology and fellowship training in Bone & Soft Tissue Pathology. My research interests are focused on molecular drivers of neurofibromatous neoplasms including malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) and adult-type rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS). While my PhD work focused on the cutaneous autoimmune disease Pemphigus Vulgaris, I subsequently performed an MD fellowship and postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University where I studied the role of commensal bacteria in autoimmune diseases and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. During my time at Washington University, I joined the laboratory of Dr. Angela Hirbe where I embarked on various projects focusing on MPNST. Specifically, I showed that chr8 gain is associated with malignant transformation in MPNST. At Indiana University, I worked closely with Dr. Steven Rhodes studying NF1 and MPNST pathogenesis and I am hoping to continue this and other interesting sarcoma projects here at UPenn.
