Check out PISCE in action!

From Wednesday February 25th to Friday February 27th, 2026, the University of Pennsylvania hosted the 2026 Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (CCIS), which was founded in 2019 by the National Cancer Institute as an organizing body to bring together researchers, clinicians, and policymakers interested in the application of implementation science across the cancer continuum.

The 2026 annual CCIS meeting featured oral presentations, action group meetings, and a poster session, all centered on the theme: Advancing Implementation Science Across the Cancer Continuum from Prevention to Survivorship. Our keynote speaker was Dr. Kristie Foley, from Wake Forest University and remarks were provided by Dr. David Chambers, Deputy Director for Implementation Science at NCI, and Dr. Robert Vonderheide, Director of the Abramson Cancer Center. Close to 190 students, faculty, and scientists from across the nation registered for the meeting, marking the largest CCIS annual gathering to date.

The meeting was organized and hosted by the National Cancer Institute and members of the Penn faculty and Abramson Cancer Center. Serving as co-chairs for the meeting were Dr. Robert Schnoll, Dr. Katherine Rendle, and Dr. Courtney Wolk. Expertise and resources from the Abramson Cancer Center’s Cancer Risk and Exposures Program, Cancer Control Program, and Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC); from the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I); and from the Penn Implementation Science Center (PISCE) provided the opportunity to hear the latest research applying implementation science models and methods to address critical gaps across cancer prevention, control, treatment, and survivorship. Professional networking, mentorship, and new directions for the action groups emerged.

2027’s meeting will be organized by the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and will be hosted by Dr. Maria Fernandez at the UTHealth Houston’s Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences. Many thanks to Jennifer Schaefer from ICF, our colleagues at NCI, and our Penn colleagues who moderated sessions and helped with organizing and hosting the meeting.
