Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Chang's research expertise is in immune mechanisms of viral persistence and liver disease pathogenesis in human hepatitis C and B viruses, with and without HIV confection--using high-dimensional single cell immune analysis via Flow and Mass Cytometry. As the Co-PI of a VA-funded genetic study of cardiometabolic diseases using the VA's Million Veterans Program (MVP), Dr. Chang is also exploring genetic and clinical databases to better understand and improve human health.

Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Chang's clinical area of expertise is in the evaluation, treatment and study of patients with acute and chronic viral hepatitis B and C, with and without HIV coinfection. She established and directed the active GI/Liver clinic at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center in 1999-2012. She continues to supervise GI fellows and rotating students/residents in the GI/Liver clinic to date.

Description of Other Expertise

Dr. Chang is the Associate Chief of Research (ACOS/R&D) and Associate Dean for Research at the Philadelphia Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC), which is academically affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. As such, Dr. Chang has the administrative oversight in developing VA-based and/or VA-funded research and mentoring VA/Penn dual-appointed Penn faculty at the CMCVAMC.
