Optical Blood Flow Measurements in Deep Tissues: Origins, Achievements, Challenges and Prospects
Speaker:
Arjun G. Yodh, Ph.D.
James M. Skinner Professor of Science
Department of Physics and Astronomy
University of Pennsylvania
Objectives
- Review origins the basic physics underlying the blood flow measurement technique, diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) with examples of non-invasive measurements of vascular responses of deep tissues located centimeters below the surface (primarily brain).
- Describe recent progress from Penn and from the community in employing diffuse optics to probe tissue blood flow biomarkers, oxygen metabolism, and flow autoregulation.
