Update on masking requirement

08/05/21

Dear Colleagues,

Consistent with updated guidance from the University and the Health System and based on data from the Penn Medicine Surveillance Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 Variants, we will now require that masks be worn indoors at all times – regardless of whether the building/space is clinical or nonclinical – effective immediately.  This masking guidance applies to all individuals regardless of vaccination status.

Masks must be worn during indoor meetings or any group settings.  If you are alone in an enclosed office, you are allowed to remove your mask when the door is closed.

Please also limit your time in break rooms and designated eating areas to eating and drinking, which is the only time your mask may be doffed.  Food and drink for indoor meetings and gatherings may no longer be provided until further notice.

Disposable masks are available at staffed security desks [BRB, CRB, Johnson Pavilion, Smilow, and Stellar Chance security office].

Given the increased transmissibility of the Delta variant, we encourage the continued use of remote platforms for large seminars and conferences until the present trend reverses.

Lastly, as a reminder, all current faculty, staff, and post-doctoral trainees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and need to upload (securely and confidentially) vaccination status in Workday.  If vaccination status is not uploaded in Workday, you will be required to participate in twice-weekly Penn Cares screening testing and complete your daily symptom attestation in PennOpen Pass.

As always, we continue to monitor closely our national and regional COVID-19 cases and community transmission levels, and will continue to work in partnership with the University and Health System to provide updates and guidance on public health measures.

Thank you,

Jon
