Update: Information on the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy

12/12/22

Dear Colleagues,

Earlier this fall, I wrote about the National Institutes of Health (NIH) plan to implement a new data management and sharing policy which will apply to all NIH-supported research that results in the generation of scientific data, regardless of funding mechanism. This plan will begin on January 25, 2023.

Today, I would like to share a new PSOM webpage which outlines the expectations of the policy, provides updates and helpful tools, and compiles sample templates for various scientific fields.

Please note that information from the NIH continues to evolve, and we are working to refine templates to meet guidelines (send us any samples you may have as well).  However, we wanted to remind you all of this upcoming policy change and ask that you continue to stay informed on how this will impact your submissions and aware of resources available to you.

These resources include extensive support from our University partners, including the Penn Libraries, the Institute for Biomedical Informatics, the Office of Research Services as well as our own PSOM Office of Research Support Services and Office of Clinical Research.

Lastly, there will be a special webinar tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13, on Creating Data Management Plans with DMPTool. Check our PSOM site regularly for updates.

Thank you,

Jon
